10 Things I’ve Learnt About Self Love
It’s so much more than just taking a bubble bath.
You can have all the bubble baths in the world, but once you get out you will still feel exactly the same way if you don’t do real work on yourself. Candles help, but they aren’t going to solve anything other than a bad smell.
2. It’s not about loving everything about yourself, it’s about loving yourself as a whole.
Of course, you’re not going to love everything about your personality or your appearance. I don’t like that I can be lazy and I’m not a huge fan of my broad shoulders. But I can appreciate them. My sometimes laziness makes me really appreciate when I’m feeling productive and my broad shoulders are a reminder of when I was a swimmer. Self-love is about acknowledging the things you don’t like but loving yourself as a whole anyway.
3. It’s a longer process than you think.
There’s days when I still look in the mirror and find that I’m picking myself apart. But then there’s others when I feel full of confidence and no man in the world deserves me. I’m still working on myself every day to not be so hard on myself and give myself a break and always know the value of myself. It’s not going to happen overnight.
4. There’s more than one way to love yourself.
For some, self love is working out every day, and for others its lying on the sofa eating junk food. Neither of them are wrong.
5. Mind and Body go hand in hand.
Your mind makes up your personality and needs just as much loving as your body.
6. ‘You can’t love someone else without loving yourself’ is only half true.
You can love someone else without loving yourself, but for me that’s always ended really badly. Being with someone else made my self-confidence even lower when I didn’t feel good about myself. When I felt really unhappy with myself, I ended up with the wrong people. That isn’t necessarily true for everyone.
7. Words of affirmation are actually really important.
Only speaking positive words to myself has been so beneficial and crucial in my self-love journey. Don’t knock it until you try it.
8. You can’t do it alone.
You need to help of your friends to help get you there. I cannot tell you know many times my best friends have told me how amazing I am. Having a support network around you is vital. Only associate yourself with people who know what an incredible person you are deserve to be around you.
9. It’s extremely personal.
One person’s journey isn’t going to be the same as the next person. Everyone is different so everyone’s journey is going to be different. Don’t compare yourself to others.
10. It isn’t selfish or big-headed to love yourself.
You’re going to be stuck with yourself for 80-odd years! Why would anyone want to make it difficult for themselves!?
