The One by John Marrs

I read this book in a day; I was gripped from the moment I picked it up until I put it down, which I only did to eat. I was totally absorbed in the story lines.

The book simultaneously follows the lives of five characters as they find who their DNA match is. Each chapter has snippets of each of the five characters and it took me a while to get into the flow of it. At times I would get annoyed as I really wanted to get to the next bit of that characters story, but knew I had to read through the other four first until I got to the next installment of that one.

However, each character goes through so many twists and turns that you end up just relaxing into the style. Some characters I liked more than others, some interested me more than others yet all their stories were compelling enough to keep me going all day.

I got to the end and almost wanted to start again, reading the stories concurrently, there was so much happening I think I may have missed something along the way. This book is gripping and like any good movie you are gripped to the end. But it isn’t just a great story, it does leave you thinking and asking some big questions of yourself, which I personally love in a book. There were so many twists, turns and nail biting chaff hangers that I was left feeling exhausted and a little dizzy, but personally I could not think of a better way to spend a day.
